Well done to the Year 4/5 football team that tonight won the Meadows Cup. The boys played some absolutely stunning football tonight and fully deserved their win. They got off to a great start winning their first match 13-0 but we knew the next match would be tough playing against a team that had also won their first match by double figures. Grange Park got off to stunner though, scoring 2 goals in the first 5 minutes and winning the match 4-1, with our goalkeeper having to make an absolutely stunning save when we 2-1 up. This now meant if we won our last match we would be through to the cup final. The boys continued where they left off in the last match and won the last group game 7-0.

The cup final match unfortunately had to be cut short to a 12 minute match because of time issues and the game remained 0-0 for most of the first half. Just before half time though we scored another brilliant team goal. Grange Park then had a few chances to get a second but our opponents goalkeeper and defence were looking solid and they always looked dangerous on the break. We knew it would take something brilliant to get a second goal and we accomplished that with a fantastic team goal that included 9 passes before the ball was crossed in and slotted home in the corner.

Well done boys, that was an absolutely brilliant team performance. Perfect

Today we took a team of 4 boys to compete in the 2016 Telford & Wrekin Cycling competition. The boys had to compete in team events such as a 200m Sprint relay, an obstacle course, a 1km relay race and a team slalom relay. The boys did so well in every event and never gave up, even when we fell slightly behind in the 1km race. The other competing schools were also very good so we knew it was going to be close finish. Grange Park finished 2nd out of 10 teams and only narrowly missed out on 1st place by 2 points. Another fantastic result for #TeamGP. This means the Grange Park team will now represent Telford & Wrekin at the summer games next month. Well done boys.

Today we had a visit from the Shropshire Star newspaper to take a photograph of the 7 Grange Park girls that all got into the AFC Telford United U10 team. Luke Shelley from AFC Telford also featured in the picture said ‘Its a great achievement for these girls to go from never playing football a year ago, to winning the Telford Schools Cup this season, to now being selected to represent AFC Telford next year’. Well done again girls.

Next Tuesday 21st June Mr James and Mr Foley will be hosting a Euro 2016 Panini sticker swap shop at break time in base 1. On this day only children are allowed to bring in their swaps and sticker books. Children can then meet in base 1 at break time and swap their swaps with other children. All stickers and books must remain in bags and draws until break time and must be put away after break. If the event is successful and well attended we will run some more in the future.

Thank you to everyone that attended the England vs Wales football match at school yesterday. We are busy counting the pennies but so far we have raised over £100. All money raised from this match will go towards having the school logo embroidered on our new school sports event kit.

Well done to our year 4/5 girls football team that tonight won the Meadows Cup. The girls were again absolutely brilliant in every match and fully deserved their win. Every match tonight was extremely close and this meant that Grange Park had to beat Meadows in the final match to be crowned champions. A draw wouldn’t of been enough to win the tournament and we knew this would be a tough match after being previously beat by Meadows 1-0 a couple of months ago. The game was end to end but Grange Park managed to break the deadlock just before half time with a fantastic team goal. Meadows then really applied the pressure in the second half but the Grange Park defence stayed solid and a few amazing saves from our goalkeeper meant we were the eventual champions.
Well done girls, you have gone from strength to strength this year and all your hard work has paid off.

Unfortunately Kacie had to leave slightly early and missed the photo.

Year 3/4 Crossbar Cup – B Team

Well done to our Year 3/4 B football team that took part in the crossbar cup this morning. The team narrowly missed out on qualifying for the crossbar cup finals after winning 1, drawing 1 and losing 2 matches. This meant we were then entered into the crossbar plate where we had to play Newdale in the quarter final. Newdale were extremely strong and beat us in the quarter final and went on to the win the crossbar plate. Mr Thorpe was very impressed with how well the boys did considering this was the first time some of them had ever played together. Well done Boys.

Well done to our Year 3/4 football A team that finished 3rd at the crossbar cup this morning. The boys topped their group winning 4 matches and drawing one. The team then played their quarter final match and won 3-0. Grange Park then took an early 1-0 lead in the semi final but were unfortunately pegged back 1-1 from a fantastic free kick. The score remained 1-1 after extra time and the game had to be decided by a dreaded penalty shoot out. We unfortunately lost the penalty shoot out 5-4. This meant that we didn’t progress to the final but we would have to play a play off to decide 3rd/4th place. This was another extremely close game but Grange Park dug deep and won 1-0.
Well done boys, finishing 3rd out of 21 is great achievement.

Ladygrove Football Tournament

Well done to our KS2 football team that today braved the rain and gave up their saturday afternoon to represent Grange Park in the Ladygrove football tournament. This was the first time some of the children have ever represented the school football team but you would never of guessed because of how well they all played together. The whole team were brilliant. Grange Park had to win their last match to be crowned the champions and they got off to a flyer with Kacie scoring the goal of the tournament, a volley from outside the box. The team then grew in confidence and went on to win the match 9-1. So proud of every child in the team today and thank you for turning up to represent our school on a saturday.
