KS2 Cricket

Well done to our Year 6 Kwik Cricket team that this morning took part in the Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire Cricket competition. This wasn’t just the first time these children had played in a Kwik Cricket tournament before, it was also the first time some of them had ever played Kwik Cricket. The children did the school proud and were competitive in every match. The highlights from today had to be in the last two matches where we won one of the matches by over 30 runs and narrowly lost the last match by only 2 runs #TeamGP

Orienteering

Orienteering

Well done to our four Year 6 children that today represented Grange Park at the Telford & Wrekin Sports Partnership Orienteering competition at Chetwynd Deer Park . There was over 100 children that took part in the event this afternoon and once again our children were an absolute pleasure to take. Considering this was the first time they had ever taken part in an orienteering competition, they did great. We have to wait for the official results to come back from T&W Sports Partnership but judging by some of the amazing scores set by the other schools, we think we may just be outside the top 5. No matter what the results, the children and Mr James had a great afternoon. Well done #TeamGP

5.6 girls vs hollinswood

Well done to our Year 5/6 girls football team that tonight won 8-0 against Hollinswood Primary School. The game was played in the right spirit and all the girls had a great time. Our girls team have had a long winter break from matches but have continued to train. It took us a while to get used to the pace of a game today and despite being 3-0 up at half time we weren’t playing to our usual high standard. The second half was a different story though with the girls getting back to their best and playing some truly beautiful football. They were passing and moving and really working as a team and supporting each other. The highlight had to be our 5th goal where two of our girls played two one two’s in a row and then smashed the ball in the top corner. Well done again girls, keep up the hard work at training #TeamGP

League Final

What a performance from our Year 5/6 football team tonight. The boys had their final league match of the season against another unbeaten team Hollinswood Primary School and the winning team of this fixture would be crowned the league winners. Grange Park got off to an absolute flyer scoring two goals within a minute of kick off. The first goal was extra special for the boys because they had been working hard on their corners in training and all that hard work was worth it with a well executed set play goal. After the great start, the game became more end to end and although Grange Park did have numerous chances to get a third it was actually Hollinswood that had the best chance but for about the tenth time this season, our goalkeeper pulled off an absolutely amazing save to keep us up 2-0 at half time. The boys came out to the 2nd half on fire and were absolutely unstoppable. The game finished 7-0 to Grange Park and they fully deserved the win. This was by far their best performance of the season against a very very good Hollinswood team. We now have the Telford Cup semi final to prepare and look forward to. Well done boys, Mr Al-Asmar will be delivery the trophy soon #TeamGP

KS1 Cricket Edited

Well done to our KS1 children that this morning attended the T&W Sports Partnership and Shropshire Cricket Board Kwik Cricket competition. This was the first time our children had ever competed in a competitive cricket tournament but you wouldn’t of guessed as every single one of them were outstanding. Our batting and running from the start was stunning but after the first game we talked about what tactics we could use when fielding to improve our scores. After the quick discussion our fielding improved 100% in the next 5 games and was now as strong if not stronger than our batting. The team played 6 games overall today and every match they improved.

We waited anxiously for the results and we are over the moon to announce we won. This is an amazing achievement considering this was the first ever time we had entered the KS1 competition. Well done #TeamGP

Basketball Tournament

Basketball

Well done to our Year 6 Basketball Team that tonight competed in the T&W Tournament. The children just missed out on qualifying to the final finishing 2nd in their group. The team narrowly lost their first group game against Muxton Primary School despite having many chances in the game to win or at least draw. This meant the team would have to win every other match and hope Muxton slipped up. The Grange Park team did their bit and won their next three matches 3-1, 6-1 and 6-0. Unfortunately Muxton didn’t slip up and also won all their games which meant they finished top and Grange Park were 2nd. This is a great achievement considering we only started training 2 weeks ago. The children put in an amazing amount of hard work during those two weeks at the training sessions and at dinner and break times and that was evident with tonight’s performance and results. Well done #TeamGP

3.4 Quarter Final County Cup

Well done to the Year 4/5 football team that tonight reached the quarter finals of the County Cup. The boys were drawn into a tough group tonight but they played some absolutely stunning football and won both their matches to qualify to the quarter finals. In both matches they scored two perfect team goals, especially the first goal which started off with a pass from the back and ended with a one two on the edge of their opponents box and a thunderous strike that no goalkeeper would save. The boys were then drawn against previous winners and favourites for the cup, St Giles. You could see why St Giles were the favourites because they played some great football at times. Our boys gave their all despite St Giles dominating possession in the first half and with our defence on fine form and our goalkeeper producing some great saves, we managed to come in at half time 0-0. Our midfield and strikers worked so hard and tracked back at every opportunity but in the end St Giles were just too strong and scored. With only a minute left we went all out attack to try and get back into the game but unfortunately against a team as strong as St Giles, they caught us on the counter attack and scored again. We are so proud of the effort the whole team put in tonight and they were an absolute joy to watch. Special mention to our keeper that pulled off some fantastic saves again tonight, especially as he doesn’t play in goal outside of school but is always willing to help the team out and put on the gloves. Well done #TeamGP, couldn’t be any prouder.

Gold Award for Sport

Gold Award for Sport

Gold Award

Thank you to our two Year 6 Sports Team Captains, Mr Thorpe, Miss Rance and Mr James that gave up their evening tonight to attend the T&W Sports Partnership Awards Night. Grange Park were invited to attend the event to pick up the Sports Gold Award.

The award is based on the PE and school sport that we offer to children in Key Stage 2 for the academic year 2015/2016.

Thank you to all the children that have represented the school sports teams over the years and to the parents for their fantastic support. The children give their all at every event and whether we win or lose, their behaviour and attitude towards sport is amazing.

Well done #TeamGP

Year 5/6 County Cup Disappointment

Year 5/6 County Cup Disappointment

5.6 County Cup

Unfortunately the Year 5/6 football team failed to qualify to the County Cup finals tonight finishing 3rd in their group. As team manager, I (Mr James) will have to take responsibility for the first loss against St Georges Shrewsbury as we arrived at 16:00 thinking our first match kicked off at 16:15 but unfortunately our game had to kick off at 16:00. This meant the boys didn’t have time to warm up properly and this appeared to really affect their performance. There was no excuse for the second game though, where we were beaten by the better team on the night. It was a disappointing result because we have played so well against them in the past.

This meant we had no chance of qualifying to the County finals but that didn’t stop the boys digging deep and putting in a fantastic team performance in the last game against Belvidere. Grange Park won this match 2-0. Belvidere were actually unbeaten until they played us, so it just shows how high the standard was in our group tonight.

Grange Park were one of the favourites going into this competition tonight after reaching the 6-a-side finals and ESFA finals but it just wasn’t to be. Lots learnt from tonight’s matches though, ready for the big games coming up in Telford soon. Training sessions next week boys 🙂

p.s We might of been knocked out tonight but we certainly had the best kit and training jackets
