Gymnastics Competition

Gymnastics Competition

This afternoon we hosted our first ever gymnastics competition in our new site. Teams from Grange Park, Hollinswood and Shortwood competed with children doing a floor routine and a vault routine. All children performed exceptionally well and were a credit to their schools and it was clear to see that the children progressed throughout the event taking on hints and tips from the coaches during their warm up time. Many thanks to Sandra Davies and Gymfinity (including their guest judges) for organising the competition and judging it – as you can see from the pictures they took the adding up of the scores very seriously! We look forward to making this an annual event.

Year 3/4 Girls Football

Year 3/4 Girls Football

Great game of football between our Year 3/4 girls football team and Redhill Primary tonight on our 3G pitch. The girls were absolutely amazing again and scored lots of goals. It was great to play a fixture without the floodlights needed 😀 #TeamGP

Year 3/4 T&W Cup

Year 3/4 T&W Cup

Great effort by our Year 3/4 boys football team that unfortunately just missed out on qualifying to the next stage of the Telford & Wrekin Cup this morning. The boys played 3 matches and all the games could of gone either way but it ended with the boys winning 1 match and losing 2 #TeamGP

Daily Mile Track

Daily Mile Track

*** Exciting News ***

Work on our Daily Mile Track has started 🙂

The track lines were marked out yesterday and digging will start today. It’s taken a long time to get this far and we can’t wait for it to be complete so our children can start taking part in the Daily Mile.

The Daily Mile website states that children taking part in the Daily Mile become much fitter within just 4 weeks. The Daily Mile is very helpful in reducing childhood inactivity and obesity and children bring the benefits home, often eating and sleeping better and encouraging their families to be active together. The 15 minute break from lessons is invigorating and leaves children more focused and ready to learn. The time spent outside, in almost all weathers, helps children become better engaged with the outdoors and aware of nature and the seasons.

For more information on the Daily Mile, please visit their website: https://thedailymile.co.uk/

P.S don’t worry, Mrs Smith will be let no where near the construction of our track 🙂

Year 3/4 Girls County Cup

Year 3/4 Girls County Cup

Wow Wow Wow

What a couple of weeks for our Year 3/4 girls football team.

Well done to the team that tonight secured their place in the Shropshire County Cup Final. The girls will now play against Meadows Primary School at the Montgomery Waters Meadow (Shrewsbury Town FC Stadium) in May.

The girls started off slow and despite winning their first match 2-0, they didnt seem to be playing to their usual fast paced, high press style. The girls then lost their next match 1-0 despite having most of the possession. This meant if the girls had any chance of qualifying to the final, they would have to win their next two games.

The girls then put in an absolutely stunning performance to win against one of the tournament favourites, Greenfields Primary School 3-0.

This meant the girls would have a tense last match against Priorslee Academy. Which ever team won the match would qualify to the final. The match was end to end and both teams had chances to win the game. We dont normally mention individual goal scorers because football is a team game but it would be criminal not to mention the winner in this game. The game was 0-0 and we were throwing everything forward to try and score and it looked like our opponents had done enough to clear the ball, but Naomi from outside the box scored one of the best goals you will ever see at this level. The shot had speed, dip and swerve to smash into the top corner. Unbelievable goal. I’m sure any of the parents there tonight would agree what a special goal it was. Then the final whistle blew as we were all celebrating.

The whole team were absolutely amazing in the last two matches and thoroughly deserve to be playing in the final. Special mention to Faith who also had to play a new position tonight and by the end of the last two matches, you’d of thought she’d always played that position, she was that good.

We now have 4 cup finals to look forward to this year:

Year 3/4 Telford & Wrekin Cup v Priorslee

Year 3/4 Shropshire County v Meadows

Year 4/5 Shropshire County Cup v Redhill

Year 5/6 Telford & Wrekin Cup v Priorslee

Girls are on fire 🔥

Year 3/4 Football – Cluster Cup

Year 3/4 Football – Cluster Cup

Well done to both our Year 3/4 boys football teams that took part in the Stirchley Cluster Cup today. Both teams were fantastic and both teams won games with lots of goals scored. Our Blue team won 3 matches and lost 1 and our Blue and Burgundy team won 1 match and lost 3. All the boys had a great time and really supported each other and played as a team.
It was great to host the tournament at Grange Park. We had 9 teams from local schools attend.

T&W Cross Country League

T&W Cross Country League

Letters will be sent out to all KS2 children this week with regards to the upcoming T&W Cross Country Races.

If your child does not receive a letter but is interested in representing Grange Park in the races, please tell them to let Mr James, Miss Rance or Miss Trevor know. The information will also be sent out on ParentPay but your child will need to let one of the above members of staff know if they want to take part.

The cross country events are incredibly good fun, hundreds of children from across Telford come together to take part in the run. All children are welcome to attend regardless of ability; in previous years we have had children finish in the top 10, the top 30 and even in the 90’s. The children strive to do better than they did the week before whether that is simply to run for the whole of the course or to stay with the hares who lead the way.

The events will take place as follow:

Wednesday March 27th – Chetwynd Deer Park, situated on B5062 between Edgmond and Newport

Wednesday April 3rd – Telford Town Park

Wednesday April 10th – Chetwynd Deer Park, situated on B5062 between Edgmond and Newport

House points will be awarded to every child that takes part in a race.

It’s been fantastic to see so many of our children attend the Telford Junior Park Run on Sunday mornings recently as well. Its a free event that takes place at Telford Town Park every Sunday morning at 10am. It would be great to see even more #TeamGP children attend and this would be great practice for the cross country races.

Miss Trevor also runs an after school cross country club on Thursday’s. Please let Miss Trevor know if you would like to attend her training.

Sponsor

Sponsor

As you may have heard, Grange Park Primary School have 3 teams that have qualified to cup finals this year and we are looking for a sponsor to get the teams a new kit for these finals. These kits will also be used for other sporting events after the finals. The cup finals will take place at the Montgomery Waters Meadows (home of Shrewsbury Town FC) and the Bucks Head Stadium (home of AFC Telford United).

As you can see from our school PE Blog: http://gppe.primaryblogger.co.uk/ and PE Twitter account: https://twitter.com/grange_park_pe, we take part in many sporting events outside of school each week. At every sports event we enter, we take photos of our teams and publish them on our PE Blog and Twitter. Our team photos have also been published in the Shropshire Star and Telford Journal.
For £350 we can purchase 12 full kits and a goalkeeper kit with our school logo embroidered on the chest and the sponsor’s logo printed.

If you own or work for a company that might be interested in sponsoring a school sports kit, please contact us on our school Facebook page or email Mr James at: lee.james2@taw.org.uk.

Please share.
